I’ve been trying to think of new ways of stretching, the top in particular. How do I have time in the lesson when I'm trying to stretch everyone, etc? So I sat observing my U6 further maths class (so these students are pretty able) and it dawned on me that somehow the really, really high achieving students have managed to get a dynamic going and put things in place where they are stretching each other to great effect. They have found a nice balance of working independently WITHIN a group. They tell the rest of the group of really good questions that they have found and they help each other when they are stuck. I know this happens outside of lessons as well, they are using study groups and whats app groups.
How can I repeat this dynamic next year?
Have I played any part in this?
Did the seating plans help?
Did the assignments help unite them outside of lesson?
Are there strategies I can put in place to create it again next year or with a different group?
